Fixing microphone input on Ubuntu 10.04

HP Pavilion Elite HPE running Ubuntu 10.04.

Sound works, but no microphone. I made these changes:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:

options snd-hda-intel model=snd-via82xx position_fix=1

1. Click on System->Preferences->Sound

2. Change to use Microphone Input #2.

Seems to fix the issue.
